Cork City received a major prestigious award from the Chinese Government today at the China International Friendship Cities Conference 2016 in Chongqing, China.

20 October 2016: 'A Lonely impulse of delight': WB Yeats at the Embassy

An exhibition of works by visual and literary artists reflecting on the life of WB Yeats will be hosted at the Embassy from October 20th to November 2nd. All welcome!

19 October 2016: China Education Mission led by Minister Bruton

Minister for Education and Skills Richard Bruton TD visited Beijing from 19-20 October. The Minister was accompanied by officials from his own Department, the Embassy, Enterprise Ireland, and senior representatives from 19 Higher Education Institutes.

18 October 2016: Irish students to compete in Global Chinese speaking competition

Caoileann Ní Cheallaigh, a leaving cert student from Coláiste Íosagáin in Dublin and Tiernan Murphy a transition year student from Midleton College in Cork will this week travel to China to represent Ireland at the Global Chinese Speaking Competition.

07 September 2016: Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Michael Creed

Recognising the importance of China for Ireland, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Michael Creed T.D. decided to make China the first place that he led a trade mission since taking office.

04 August 2016: Chinese Language Personal Assistant vacancy at the Embassy

• The deadline for applications is 19 August 2016
• Canvassing will disqualify
• Candidates will be short-listed for interview no later than 26 August 2016
• Interviews are scheduled to be held in mid-September
• The successful applicant should be available to commence duty at the Embassy from end-September
• The Embassy does not refund travel costs incurred by interviewees
• The assessment process may include an oral and written language assessment

July 2016

04 July: First graduation at Beijing Dublin International College

On 4 July, the Ambassador attended the first graduation ceremony at Beijing Dublin International College. BDIC is a joint venture between University College Dublin and Beijing University of Technology with students receiving a degree from both institutions.

1 June: John Gerrard Exhibition at the UCCA in Beijing

The Embassy is pleased to announce its support of an exhibition by renowned Irish artist John Gerrard at the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art which will open to the public between 9 June and 7 August.

29 May: Sea Gastronomy cookbook wins top prize in Yantai

Galway author and chef Michael O’Meara’s Sea Gastronomy: Fish and Shellfish of the North Atlantic cookbook has won the Seafood Cookbook of the Year award at the World Gourmand Cookbook awards held on 29 May.

24 May: EU Concerns about the Human Rights situation in China

Recalling their joint statement of 29 January, the European Union and its Member States are glad to learn that lawyer Zhang Kai and legal assistant Gao Yue have been released from criminal detention.

19 Feb: Painting the town red! Dublin landmarks illuminated

In an historic first, the Mansion House and City Hall in Dublin were illuminated in red this week, to mark the 2016 Chinese New Year and welcome the Year of the Monkey

2 Feb: New Tourism Ireland Country Manager for China announced

Tourism Ireland has announced the appointment of James Kenny as its Country Manager for China. This is a new position, to strengthen the organisation's presence in the Chinese market.
