Urgent Appointment Service

If you require the renewal of your passport quicker than the normal turnaround times you can apply for your passport using our Urgent Appointment service

Appointments are available at our public offices in Dublin and in Cork.

First time applications cannot be made using an Urgent Appointment. The quickest way to apply for the first time is to use Passport Online.

Please do not attend our public offices unless you have made an appointment.

Third Party Websites

Alert: We are aware of third party websites who, in return for a fee, are purporting to assist passport applicants with their online Irish Passport application.  Such websites advertising their services for a premium are not associated with the Department of Foreign Affairs or the Passport Service in any way.

The Passport Service is not responsible for the content of, or fees charged, by these sites. The Passport Service strongly recommends that online passport applications should only be made directly at www.dfa.ie/passports.

You should at all times exercise extreme caution when conducting financial transactions online. Suspicions or concerns about any third party website should be reported to your local Garda Station.

Foreign Birth Registrations

Your birth can be entered on the Foreign Births Register if you are eligible to become an Irish citizen. Find out what you need to do before you begin your online application.

If an expectant parent is not on the Foreign Births Register when their child is born, the child will not be entitled to Irish citizenship.

Applications are processed strictly in order of the date that their supporting documents were received by the Passport Service in Ireland.

Due to the complex nature of the Foreign Birth Registration process you should allow approximately 9 months for processing of Foreign Birth Registration applications at this time.

Applications should be made in good time. However, applicants can make an urgent request where they are an expectant parent and where the child would not be entitled to Irish citizenship if the parent is not entered on the register.

In such cases supporting documentation confirming the urgent need is required. While every effort will be made to facilitate urgent requests the Passport Service cannot give any assurances that an entry will occur in time.

Urgent requests can also be made where a person may be stateless. This will normally occur where a child is born to an Irish citizen overseas and is not entitled to citizenship locally.

Our Customer Service Hub has dedicated agents to deal with your Foreign Birth Registration application query. The contact number for urgent Foreign Birth Registration queries as described above is +353 1 568 3331.

Please note that calls may be recorded for training and quality control purposes.
