Annual Festival "Elevation"

Paul O'Sullivan, who plays the concertina and Jessica Reville who plays fiddle are young members of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann from South Wexford. The Embassy of Ireland in Lusaka facilitated them to travel from Ireland to share Irish culture and traditional music with the Zambian people.  They had a full programme of events during their week in the country including performances with Zambian theatre artists and drummers from the organisation Barefeet.   The Irish Aid programme to Zambia proudly supports Barefeet, an organisation founded by Irishman Adam McGuigan 10 years ago, in response to the plight of young people living on Zambia’s streets.  This year their Annual Festival “Elevation” marked the 10 years of activities bringing live performances to the poorest children living in poverty in Lusaka. The fusion of Irish traditional music together with the Zambian drummers was a unique collaboration attracting spontaneous dancing and applause wherever they went.
