Digital Conference on Centres of Irish Studies in Germany, 9th of October 2020

The Embassy of Ireland in Berlin recently hosted a digital conference of the Centres of Irish Studies in Germany.

The conference gave rise to very productive exchanges on the current status of the centres and how they might be developed and enhanced in the period ahead.

Public lectures on the subject were delivered by Prof. Dr. (em.) Joachim Schwend of the University of Leipzig and by Prof. Dr. Catherine Toal of Bard College Berlin.

Prof. Dr. (em.) Joachim Schwend's lecture was titled “Memory Culture and Identity Construction – Ireland in Contemporary Europe”,

Prof. Dr. Catherine Toal's lecture was titled “Growing up in Ireland: A Brief Literary History”.

The embassy was honoured to host the conference and looks forward to further discussions on the subject of Irish Studies in Germany, in the period ahead.  The public lectures are available here and we are sure that you will find them thought provoking and informative.
