Minister of State Harris opens public consultation to assist development of a new International Financial Services strategy for Ireland

On 21 November, Simon Harris T.D., Minister of State responsible for International Financial Services, launched a public consultation process to inform the development of a new strategy for Ireland’s International Financial Services sector. Submissions are invited on a number of key questions from interested stakeholders and members of the public who wish to put forward their views and suggestions on a new strategy.

Commenting on the public consultation, the Minister said:

"Ireland has a vibrant and competitive international financial services sector. It has grown and evolved significantly over the past three decades to become a major component of our economy in terms of employment, exports and tax revenues. As stability returns to our economy we must now focus on enhancing this sector’s continuing contribution to sustainable growth and job creation.

My priority as the first appointee to this role in over 20 years is to ensure that we have a strategy that clearly identifies what actions we must take. It will also detail the co-ordination and implementation arrangements required to ensure Ireland’s continued competitiveness. It is my intention to bring a draft strategy to Government with a view to its publication in early 2015.
I view this consultation as an opportunity for interested stakeholders to contribute to the development of this sector over the medium-term. It will complement and add to inputs received to date through my extensive engagement with key stakeholders in Ireland and overseas.”

Submissions can be made directly at www.surveymonkey.com/s/ifs_strategy, or via Government websites including www.taoiseach.gov.ie, www.finance.gov.ie, www.enterprise.gov.ie, and www.merrionstreet.ie.

The closing date for submissions is Monday 15th December 2014.
