Vice Consul Keating addresses students at Whitney Young High School on Climate Change

Vice Consul Sarah Keating at the Whitney Young HS panel on climate change.

Thank you to Anne-Michele Boyle, Global Citizenship Teacher who organised the event with Consulates from Chicago and an auditorium of engaged students. Topics included Ireland's own progress, the challenges we face and the Government Action Plan. The plan includes bold targets across all sectors and will require action by the private sector, citizens and local authorities. Also in 2019, UN summit, Ireland was asked to take a lead on Youth Engagement and Public Mobilisation. Working with the UN Youth Envoy and co-lead Marshall Islands, a Youth Summit was organised. A key outcome was the Kwon Gesh pledge, where Members States were asked to commit to formal consultation with young people in Domestic Climate Policy formulation. This has gained strong momentum and featured in a Committee resolution at ECOSOC. Read more here: https://www.dccae.gov.ie/en-ie/climate-action/pages/default.aspx
