The President of Ireland welcomed UNESCO's Director General Irina Bokova to Ireland

On the morning of 21 March, Irina Bokova met with Michael D.Higgins at the President’s official residence in Phoenix Park in Dublin.
The Director General thanked President Higgins for his support to UNESCO, which he expressed during his well-received speech at UNESCO headquarters on 19 February 2013. Irina Bokova noted the common ground shared between the values and objectives of UNESCO and the vision of the President, notably in education and in the safeguarding of culture.
During her visit, Irina Bokova also met with the Minister for Education and Skills, the Minister of State for Trade and Development and officials at the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. Director Bokova visited the Dublin Writers Museum where she met representatives of the Dublin UNESCO City of Literature Programme, and paid a visit to Trinity College to see the Book of Kells.
