Ireland takes part in International Fashion Night 2017

The Embassies of Ireland, Slovenia and Portugal together with the +421 Foundation organised an international fashion night in Bratislava in 2017.

International Fashion Night 2017, which was supported by the Embassies of Ireland, Slovenia, Portugal, Hungary, Romania and Brazil involved fashion designers and artists from many countries. It took place at Eurovea under the auspices of the Major of Bratislava, Mr. Ivo Nesrovnal and in conjunction with Eurovea Fashion Forward. The Avalon Academy of Irish Dance gave an excellent performance showcasing contemporary Irish dance.

International Fashion Night 2017 was inspired by another fashion show which took place at the Galéria Mlyny in Nitra in October 2016. Four Irish fashion designers, two of whom, Madeleine Dodd and Heather Rush Keating, are fashion design students at Bray Institute of Further Education (BIFE) and two of whom, Becky O'Hara and Jessie O'Brien, are BIFE graduates showed their collections. Becky O'Hara's collection was inspired by the 1916 Rebellion whereas Jessie O'Brien's work was influenced by Celtic Goddesses. Madeleine Dodd chose to reflect Samhann and Bealtaine as well as the Burren in the outfits she presented whilst Heather Rush Keating's pieces were influenced by fairy folktales.
