19th Annual Asian Gaelic Games

10-12/10/14

The 19th Annual Asian Gaelic Games will run from Friday, 10 October to Sunday 12 October in Kula Lumpur, Malaysia. More than 20 clubs from across 15 countries in Asia will compete in Kuala Lumpur at the continents centrepiece GAA tournament.

Réalta at Jeonju International Sori Festival

Founded in 2001, Jeonju International Sori Festival (JISF) (전주세계소리축제) is Korea's main festival for traditional music. Since 2011 the event has welcomed traditional performers from all over the world and is considered one of Korea’s finest exhibitions of world music. In 2012 the JISF was voted in the top 25 of world music festivals by British based music magazine 'Songlines'.

Minister for Patriots and Veterans Affairs visits Ireland

Minister for Patriots and Veterans Affairs Park, Sungchoon visited Ireland on 3 and 4 October to meet with Veterans and bereaved family members of those who fought in the Korean war under the United Nations command. On Friday 3 October Minister Park laid a wreath at the Irish National War Memorial at Islandbridge.

Irish films at the 19th Busan International Film Festival(BIFF)

With an audience of over 200,000 the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) is undoubtedly one of Asia’s and Korea’s premier film events. Last year saw the BIFF feature 11 Irish films in a programme titled ‘Rogues, Rebels and Romantics: A Season of Irish Cinema’.

Irish Composer exhibit’s collaborative art and sound work at Korea International Art Fair (KIAF)

The beyond reality is an Irish/Korean collaboration which is 1 of 5 pieces selected for ART FLASH an interactive media feature for the upcoming Korea International Art Fair (KIAF) which will run from Thursday 25 September - Monday, 29 September. ART FLASH is a specially curated, mega-exhibition targeted for a general audience.

Seoul International Writers Festival (SIWF)

Under the theme of “Eros and Dream,” the 2014 5th Seoul International Writers’ Festival (SIWF) will bring together a total of 28 writers, from Korea and all across the globe to Seoul’s historic neighbourhood of Bukchon from September 23 through 27.

One Month in Dublin by Ingeong Choi, winner of the 2013 Ireland Korea Essay competition

The Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade in association with and Irish association of Korea hosted the Ireland Korea essay competition in 2013 for Korean Undergraduate students. The Grand prize included one months study in Ireland at a top English language school with free return flights, accommodation and spending money.

Minister Richard Bruton leads Trade and Investment visit to Korea

Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton T.D, lead a trade investment mission to Korea from 25 – 27 June prepared jointly by the Embassy, Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland. A particular focus of the visit to Seoul was on future opportunities and collaborations in the ICT and life sciences sector.

Minister Howlin addresses the UN Pubilc Service Forum in Korea on ‘Irelands: Public Service Reform & Sustainable Recovery’

Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Brendan Howlin T.D visited Korea to participate in the UN Public Service Forum held in Korea from Monday, 23 June to Thursday, 26 June. On the opening day of the forum the Minister made a keynote speech on public sector reform in Ireland to an audience of more than a 1000 drawn from countries all around the world.

From 8-11 April Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will host the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins for an official State Visit to the United Kingdom, the first ever by an Irish President. It will be a momentous occasion, following on from the State Visit of Her Majesty to Ireland in 2011, the first by a British monarch since 1911, when Ireland was still a part of the United Kingdom. President Higgins will also be the first Head of State that Her Majesty The Queen has officially hosted for a State Visit since President Park Geun-hye in November 2013.

Seoul Namsan Tower goes Green for St. Patrick’s Day

Seoul’s N-Tower this year joined a host of iconic world famous buildings and landmarks in going green for St. Patrick’s Day, from dusk until midnight on the 17 March.

The 14th annual St Patricks day parade was held in D-Cube city outdoor park Sindorim, Seoul on Saturday 15 March.

Minister Fitzgerald’s visit to Korea

12-14/03/14

Minister Fitzgerald visited Korea in celebration of St. Partick’s day. Highlights included her laying of a wreath at the Irish Memorial at the War Memorial of Korea with the Minister for Patriots and Veterans Affairs, Park Sungchoon; and the National Day Reception, hosted by the Ambassador which focused on the promotion of Irish food.

Kevin O’Rourke Launched ‘My Korea’ in the Irish Residence

Over 70 people gathered for the launch of Fr. Kevin O’Rourke’s new book ‘My Korea – 40 years without a horsehair hat ‘hosted by the Ambassador of Ireland jointly with the Seoul literary Society.
