Rosenborg v Cork - August 2018

Passports, visas and travel insurance

Irish passport holders don’t need a visa to enter Norway. Your passport should be valid for the duration of your stay.

Take out comprehensive travel insurance even if you’re only going for the day or a night, if you get into difficulties it could save you a lot of money.

You should get a free European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) before leaving Ireland. The EHIC isn’t a substitute for medical and travel insurance, but it entitles you to state provided basic emergency medical treatment should it become necessary during your trip.

Download the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade TravelWise App, and set an alert for Norway to get security updates directly to your phone. The app is available free at the App Store or Google Play.

Register with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade before travelling to Norway, which will help us contact you or your family in an emergency. This can be done easily online or through the TravelWise application.

Keep a photocopy or a scan of your passport information page or passport card in case you lose them, and also give the details to family or friends.

Getting to the stadium

Lerkendal Stadium is located approximately 2 kilometres south of the city centre. Several bus services stop near the stadium (3, 8, 17, 55, 60, 66). The train line also stops outside the stadium.

Fans heading directly from the airport, can use some of the airport shuttle buses which stop at the stadium.

Trondheim’s main airport is Trondheim airport, located 32 km west of the city centre. The cheapest option from the airport to the city is by local bus. Taxis can be very expensive.

At the match

There will be a police presence for the match. Follow all instructions from police and security officials on the day. There will be security checks at the stadium so plan to arrive early.

It is usual practice for the visiting fans to be held back for approximately 10-15 minutes after the match.

Fireworks, flares, alcohol, poles for flags and any item that can be used as a weapon or thrown onto the pitch will not be allowed into the ground. Drinking alcohol at football matches is generally prohibited in Norway. Police and security staff have the authority to deny entry into the stadium to spectators under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
