Ireland-Liberia Fellowships Programme 2022/23 - Applications Open

05 July 2021The Embassy of Ireland, Liberia is now seeking applications for the 2022/23 Ireland-Africa Fellows Programme from eligible women and men working in the following entities and organisations in Liberia:
- Ministry of Health (MoH)
- Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP)
- Ministry of Justice (MoJ)
- Ministry of Agriculture (MoA)
- Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA)
- Judiciary of Liberia
- Independent National Commission on Human Rights (INCHR)
- National Elections Commission (NEC)
- Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA)
- Association of Female Lawyers of Liberia (AFELL)
- Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA)
The Government of Ireland has been offering fellowships to study in Ireland for almost half a century. The key goal of the Ireland-Africa Fellows Programme is to nurture leaders from a range of African countries, including Liberia, to develop in-country capacity to achieve national SDG goals, and to build relationships with Ireland.
The programme offers selected early-career professional Liberians the opportunity to undertake a fully-funded one-year master’s programme at a prestigious higher education institution (HEI) in Ireland. Awards are made in areas including health care and nutrition, women’s studies, development, international relations, human rights, economics and finance.
The award covers course fees, accommodation, living costs, and flights. Applicants can choose from almost 200 postgraduate programmes especially selected to enhance capacity in line with Liberia’s development goals and the Government of Ireland’s Strategy in Liberia.
Eligibility
To be eligible for an Ireland Fellows Programme – Africa fellowship awardcommencing at the beginning of the academic year 2022, applicants must:
- Be a resident national of Liberia;
- Have a minimum of three years’ work experience that is directly relevant to your proposed programme(s) of study.
- Hold a bachelors level academic qualification from an accredited and government-recognised higher education institution, with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale) - i.e. a first class honour, or second class honour, Grade 1). It must have been awarded by 2010 or later (i.e. within the last 12 years).
- Not already hold a qualification at master’s level or higher. Not currently undertaking a programme at master’s level or higher, or be due to start a programme at master’s level or higher in the academic year 2022/23.
- Be applying to commence a new programme in Ireland no sooner than August 2022;
- Be able to demonstrate the following: leadership abilities and aspirations; a commitment to the achievement of the SDGs within your own country; and a commitment to contribute to building positive relationships with Ireland.
- Have identified and selected three relevant programmes from the Directory of Eligible Programmes, available from 5 July 2021 at: https://www.irishaidfellowships.ie for all programmes chosen.
- Must not have applied to the Ireland Fellows Programme on more than one previous occasion;
- Be in a position to take up the Fellowship in the academic year 2022/2023.
The application form, guidance note and Directory of Courses are available through eligible entities, listed above. The application process consists of three stages. Stage 1 - Preliminary application is a short application form which allows our selection panel to assess your eligibility under the various criteria of the programme.
Stage 1 opens 5 July 2021 - 1 August 2021
The preliminary application form should be sent to monrovia.fellowships@dfa.ie by close of business on Sunday 1 August 2021. Applicants will also be required to submit a scanned copy of the following documents with your application form:
- Your passport (only the identity page is required), or other official identification document if you do not have a passport at this time;
- Your undergraduate degree award certificate. Temporary certificates are not accepted, unless studies were completed within the previous 12 months;
- (Optional at this stage): Final degree academic transcripts;
- (Optional at this stage): Your IELTS English language test certificate. Only certificates dated September 2019 or later are acceptable. If you already have an English language test result from an exam other than the IELTS exam, this may also be accepted. Please include with your application form.
All applicants will be contacted by the Embassy of Ireland by September 4, 2021 and informed whether they have been successful or unsuccessful at Stage 1. If successful, you will be invited to progress to Stage 2 of the process, and complete a more detailed application form.
