Our mission is to promote and protect abroad the values, interests and economic well-
being of Ireland and its people. We do this under the political direction of our Ministers,
through our staff at home and through our Embassy network abroad.

 

Applications are invited for a Senior Gender Advisor position in the Embassy of Ireland in Liberia.

 

Role and responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Head of Development, the Senior Gender Advisor will be required to:

  • Oversee and develop the gender portfolio, manage the programme, grants and NGO and UN partners in accordance with agreed Embassy standards for programme management;
  • Provide  strategic understanding and advice on gender equality programming component of the Embassy’s new five-year strategy;
  • Contribute to the Embassy’s engagement in national level policy dialogue and external representation on gender and SRHR issues, including participation in relevant technical working groups and coordination meetings with Development Partners and Government Ministries;
  • Provide regular updates and briefs relevant to the gender  programme as required and take responsibility for technical liaison with headquarters;
  • Coordinate closely with other colleagues across all pillars of the Embassy’s Irish Aid programme in Liberia;
  • Other duties as required from time to time and directed by the Ambassador and Deputy Head of Mission as necessary.

 

Candidate profile:

To be considered eligible, a candidate must have:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field – Gender or Social Studies etc.
  • At least five years of specific post qualification experience at the same level in a similar role with a bilateral or multi-lateral organisation, Government or NGO;
    • Demonstrated experience in strong programme planning, implementation, management and monitoring skills;
    • An excellent understanding of gender and SRHR issues globally and the context in Liberia;
    • Ability to work as part of a team and in partnership with other stakeholders;
    • Proficiency in the Microsoft suite of applications;
    • Excellent command of English;
    • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills;
    • Commitment to the Government of Ireland’s values;
    • Proven leadership, analysis, decision-making, interpersonal and communication skills;
    • Proven track record of delivering results;
    • Full commitment to team working with the ability to work on own initiative;

Terms and conditions of employment:

 

  • The successful candidates will be hired on an initial 2 Year fixed term contract with a probationary period of 6 months and will be based at the Embassy office;
  • Monday to Friday, 39 hours per week, with standard office hours from 8.30 AM to 5.30 PM Monday to Thursday and 8.30 AM to 13.45 PM on Friday.
  • The salary for the position is $58,666.40 per annum, paid locally on a monthly basis. Salaries are paid direct to a bank account therefore the successful candidate must have a bank account.  
  • The position will have an annual leave allowance of 20 days per annum, exclusive of public holidays, adjusted pro rata.
