Credentials Ceremony

Credentials Ceremony

On Wednesday March 6th, Ambassador Vincent O’Neill presented Credentials to HM King Abdullah II at an elaborate ceremony at Basman Palace, Amman. The Ambassador was accompanied by colleagues Justin Ryan and Sarah Dooley.

The King congratulated the Ambassador on being Irelands first resident Ambassador to Jordan. He expressed his desire that the opening of the Embassy would lead to the strengthening of our bilateral relationship, particularly in the political and economic spheres. During their discussion, the King and the Ambassador reflected on Ireland’s important contribution to peace and stability in the Middle East and, in this regard, he expressed his appreciation for the recent meeting convened by the Tánaiste in Dublin, which was attended by Foreign Minister Safadi.

The Ambassador conveyed warm greetings on behalf of President Higgins and the Irish people and indicated that in opening our new Embassy in Amman, the Irish Government wants to strengthen political ties with HM Government, to deepen our engagement with Jordan in the promotion of peace and security in the region, to continue to support Jordan in their hosting of Palestinian and Syrian refugees and to strengthen trade and investment links between our two countries. Following the formal interaction with the King, the ceremony concluded with the laying of wreaths at the tombs of King Hussein, King Abdullah I and King Tilal.
