Preparations underway for Asia’s Biggest SPD Celebration

アイルランド大使館は、新たに「エコ」をテーマに加えて開催される
2017年の「アイラブアイルランド・フェスティバル」を引き続き強力に支援すると発表
本日、アン・バリントン駐日アイルランド大使は、来年3月に開催されるイベント「アイラブアイルランド・フェスティバル」をアイルランド大使館が引き続き強力に支援すること、およびアイルランド大使館と在日アイルランド商工会議所（IJCC）が、同フェスティバルの実行委員会のもとで株式会社LA DITTA（ラ・ディッタ）をイベント運営の総代理店として複数年起用する決定を行ったことを発表しました。
「アイラブアイルランド・フェスティバル」は、アイルランドのナショナルデー「セント・パトリックス・デー（3月17日）」に合わせて毎年3月に代々木公園と表参道で開催されている、家族揃って楽しめる祭典です。アイルランドの料理、音楽、ダンス、文化を楽しめるイベントとしてはアジア最大のもので、2016年3月20日には5万人を超える来場者を迎えました。同フェスティバルの実行委員会は、アイルランド‐日本外交関係樹立60周年の2017年は開催を2日間に拡大し、のべ10万人以上の来場を目指すとともに、ますます内容・規模を拡大していくとしています。
これまでフェスティバル発展の礎となってきた、アイルランドが誇る文化、食、銘酒、緑豊かな美しい自然といったテーマに加えて、2017年にはプログラムを拡大し、「エコ」を新たなテーマとして取り入れる予定です。
バリントン大使は本日、以下のとおり発言しました。
「駐日アイルランド大使館は、在日アイルランド商工会議所と株式会社LA DITTAと共に、2017年アイラブアイルランド・フェスティバルの野心的でエキサイティングな計画に着手できることを嬉しく思っています。このフェスティバルは開始以来発展を続けており、アイルランド文化を祝う日本最大級のイベントとなっています。
スケールアップして行う2017年のフェスティバルは、アイルランドと日本の外交関係樹立60周年を祝う年に、この二つの島国の強い絆を改めて活性化するための大規模な取り組みの一環となっています。毎年多くの日本の皆さんがアイルランド文化を楽しんでくださっているのは大変光栄なことであり、2017 年のアイラブアイルランド・フェスティバルが、これまでで最も大きく、かつ最も素晴らしいものとなるよう願っております。」
また、駐アイルランド日本大使の三好真理大使は、次のように述べています。
「在日アイルランド商工会議所の皆様におかれましては、この素晴らしいフェスティバルの開催と、文化・歴史の共有を通じたアイルランドと日本の関係強化に向けた献身的な取り組みに対し、心より敬意を表します。」
在日アイルランド商工会議所のジェラルド・マリガン会頭は次のように付け加えています。
「アイルランドと日本のビジネス関係発展のサポートが私たち商工会議所の第一の目的ですが、アイルランドの国、文化、歴史についての知識を日本でさらに広げることも、私たちにとって等しく重要です。商工会議所ではこれまで3年間アイラブアイルランド・フェスティバルを主催してきており、アジア最大のアイルランドの祭典を今後さらに発展させるため、LA DITTA社をチームに迎えることを嬉しく思います。」

3月17日の「セント・パトリックス・デー」はアイルランドのナショナルデーで、毎年世界中で何百万もの人々に祝われている。ヨーロッパ、アメリカ、アジアの各地で大規模なパレードやフェスティバルが行われ、様々な年齢・国籍の人が集まり、世界的に有名なアイルランドの音楽やダンス、料理、お酒などを楽しむ今やグローバルなイベント。日本でも、2016年にはセント・パトリックス・デー のパレードやフェスティバルが国内 12都市で開催され大変多くの観客を動員しており、2017年には更なる発展が見込まれる。
「アイラブアイルランド・フェスティバル」は、日本で行われるセント・パトリックス・デー祝賀行事の中核を成すイベントであり、アイルランド文化のお祭りとしてアジア最大の規模を誇る。2017年、4年目を迎える同フェスティバルは、東京の春のイベントカレンダーの目玉となり、その内容・規模ともに、史上最高のものとなることが期待されている。

- Embassy of Ireland announces renewed support for I Love Ireland Festival
- Festival to have new ‘eco’ theme
Ireland’s Ambassador to Japan, Her Excellency Ms Anne Barrington, today announced the Embassy of Ireland’s renewed support for the I Love Ireland Festival and the decision of the Embassy of Ireland and the Ireland Japan Chamber of Commerce (IJCC) to enlist La Ditta Limited as event organisers on a multi-year engagement.
The I Love Ireland Festival is a family-friendly event held annually in Yoyogi Park and Omotesando in March, coinciding with St. Patrick’s Day celebrations - Ireland’s national holiday. The festival has grown year-on-year and is Asia’s largest celebration of Irish food, music, dance and culture. The festival attracted over 50,000 attendees in 2016. La Ditta Limited have stated their ambition to build on this success and are aiming to attract 100,000 visitors over two days in central Tokyo in 2017.
As part of the expanded 2017 programme, the festival will build on Ireland’s reputation for fresh, ‘green’ food, delicious drink and fantastic unspoiled landscape, and will include a new ‘eco’ theme.
Speaking today, Ambassador Barrington said: “The Embassy of Ireland in Japan is delighted to join the Ireland Japan Chamber of Commerce and La Ditta Limited in setting out an ambitious and exciting proposal for the 2017 I Love Ireland Festival. The festival has gone from strength-to-strength, and is Japan’s largest celebration of Irish culture.
“The expanded 2017 festival comes as Ireland and Japan prepare to celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations, and is just one part of a larger plan to renew and invigorate the strong links between our two island nations. I am honoured to see so many Japanese people embrace Irish culture every year and it is my hope that 2017 will be the biggest and best I Love Ireland Festival yet.”
Her Excellency Mrs Mari Miyoshi, Ambassador of Japan to Ireland, commented: “I would like to congratulate the Ireland Japan Chamber of Commerce on this wonderful festival and the commitment they are making to strengthen Ireland-Japan relations through the sharing of cultural and historical information in a family-oriented environment.”
Mr Gerard Mulligan, President of IJCC, added: “While helping to support the development of business relations between Ireland and Japan is the primary objective of the Chamber, it is equally important for us that we promote and support greater awareness of Ireland, Irish culture and Irish history in Japan. The Chamber has organised the I Love Ireland Festival for the last three years and we are delighted to welcome La Ditta into our team as we seek to grow Asia’s premier Irish festival even further.”
About St. Patrick’s Day and the I Love Ireland Festival
St. Patrick’s Day is Ireland’s national holiday and is celebrated by millions of people worldwide each year on 17 March. Huge parades and festivals are held across Europe, the USA and Asia, where people of all ages and nationalities come together to experience Ireland’s world-famous music, dance, food and drink. In 2016, St. Patrick’s Day parades and festivals were held in 12 cities in Japan alone, attracting thousands people, and 2017 looks set to beat that record.
The I Love Ireland Festival is the centre of the celebrations in Japan and is Asia’s biggest celebration of Irish culture. Entering its fourth year, the event has become a mainstay of the Tokyo festival calendar and 2017 promises to be the biggest and best yet.
