10-11 December: ‘The 1916 Rising with an Asian perspective’ Symposium

‘The 1916 Rising with an Asian perspective’ Symposium. The Japan Ireland Society (JIS), established over 50 years ago, is the oldest Ireland-related academic Society in Japan. Its Annual Conference on Irish Studies next year is entitled ‘The 1916 Rising with an Asian perspective’.

20 October: 1916 Commemorations: Screening of 1916 -The Irish Rebellion

In cooperation with the Ireland-Japan Chamber of Commerce, the Notre Dame Club of Japan and Sophia University, Tokyo, the Embassy of Ireland is pleased to announce a screening of "1916 - The Irish Rebellion", a new documentary made by Notre Dame University's Keogh-Naughton Institute of Irish Studies.

1-5 October 2016: Visit by Minister John Halligan T.D. 1-5 October 2016

Ireland's Minster for Training, Skills and Innovation, Mr. John Halligan T.D., visited Japan from 1-5 October to participate in the Science and Technology in Society (STS) Forum in Kyoto and promote Ireland-Japan cooperation in the Science and Technology area.


September 2016

01 September: Official logo for 60th Anniversary Announced

2017 will mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Ireland.  The official Logo announced today will be used to highlight various celebratory events throughout the year and mark the close relationship between both countries.

18 March: The 1916 Proclamation in Japanese

Trinity College Dublin launched a collection of translations of the 1916 Proclamation by their Centre for Literary Translation.

19 March: Nagoya St Patrick's Day Parade/Easter Rising Commemoration

This year' St Patrick's Day celebrations will be themed on the 2016 Commemorations and will take place on the 19th March. 

16 March: Saint Patrick's Day Message from Ambassador Barrington

Ambassador Anne Barrington  wishes everyone in Japan a Happy Saint Patrick's Day and highlights Ireland's economic recovery.
