Celebrate the legacy of the Irish born "father of German industry", William Mulvany, on 1st July 2016

On 1 July 2016, the life and legacy of William Thomas Mulvany (1806-1885) will be celebrated by the Irish Business Network in Düsseldorf together with Ireland's Ambassador to Germany, Michael Collins.

William Mulvany was an Irish engineer who left Ireland for Germany in 1849 where he then played an instrumental role in developing the coal industry across the Ruhr region including through the establishment of the Shamrock, Erin and Hibernia Mines in addition to the ironworks at Duisberg, the RheinWeser Elbe Canal, the Dortmund-Ems Canal and the Düsseldorf Stock Exchange. Mulvany is widely credited with being the leading industrialist of the Ruhr region and ofter referred to as the father of German industry.

The NRW Chapter of Germany's Irish Business Network have organised an event to celebrate his remarkable achievements on 1 July 2016 which will include a bus tour highlighting Mulvany's contribution to the NRW region and an evening reception in Düsseldorf's Wirtschaftsklub venue.
