Ireland Fellows Programme - Roger Casement Award now open to applicants from Brazil

The Embassy of Ireland in Brazil is pleased to announce that the Ireland Fellows Programme is now open for applications for candidates in Brazil, for the 2024-2025 academic year. The Ireland Fellows Programme aims to nurture future leaders from across Latin America and the Caribbean, while contributing to the capacity of countries to achieve national sustainable development goals in line with Agenda 2030 and building positive relationships with and in Ireland.

The Ireland Fellows Programme Roger Casement Award in Human Rights was established to honour the memory of the Irish human rights activist Roger Casement, who served as British Consul-General in Brazil in the early twentieth-century. Roger Casement was instrumental in shedding light on human rights abuses in the Amazon region. With his humanitarian legacy in mind, we will work with partners in Brazil to deliver the Roger Casement Award to enable young professionals to undertake a master’s level course of study in the areas of Law, Human Rights and Governance in Ireland each year.

Selected students will have the opportunity to undertake a fully funded one-year master’s level programme at a higher education institution (HEI) in Ireland, commencing in August or September 2024. The fellowship award covers programme fees, flights, accommodation and living costs. The Ireland Fellows Programme promotes gender equality, equal opportunity, and welcomes diversity. We particularly welcome applications from women and people from minority backgrounds.

The Ireland Fellows Programme is fully funded by the Irish Government and is offered under the auspices of the Department of Foreign Affairs. The Programme aligns with the Irish Government’s commitments under Global Ireland and the national implementation plan for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)The Global Island: Ireland’s Foreign Policy for a Changing WorldA Better World: Ireland’s Policy for International DevelopmentGlobal Ireland: Ireland’s Strategy for Latin America and the Caribbean to 2025, and Ireland's International Education Strategy.
