The US sponsoring bodies managing the great majority of Irish participants in the United States Summer Work Travel Programme (known as the J1 programme) have made public plans to introduce a requirement for applicants from countries in the Visa Waiver Programme, which includes Ireland, to pre-arrange jobs as part of their Summer 2016 J1 applications.

Exhibition of Irish architecture launched at inaugural Chicago Architecture Biennial

The Minister for Business and Employment, Ged Nash TD was in Chicago from 1-3 October to lead a design feasibility study and launch an exhibition of Irish architecture at the inaugural Chicago Architecture Biennial. The visit was organised as part of Irish Design 2015 (ID2015), the year-long initiative backed by the Irish government exploring, promoting and celebrating Irish design throughout Ireland and internationally.

Culture Ireland launches its international culture programme

On Saturday 3 October, Culture Ireland launched its international culture programme, entitled, "I am Ireland" which forms part of the Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme. The launch provided details on the year-long international programme of cultural events, including in the US, to commemorate the events of the 1916 Rising, to reflect on our achievements over the last 100 years and to look forward to Ireland's future.

The Government of Ireland is organising a national and international program of events to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising and to remember those who fought and those who died for Irish independence. 

Book of Condolence for Berkeley Tragedy

Members of the public are invited to sign a book of condolence for the victims of the Berkeley tragedy at the Consulate General of Ireland, Suite 1820, 1 East Wacker Drive, Chicago, IL 60601 from tomorrow morning, Wednesday 17 June.

The book will be available for signature from Wednesday 17th to Friday 19th June, 2015 from 10.00am to 12.00 noon and from 2.00pm to 4.00pm each day.

Visit to Minneapolis - St. Paul by Ambassador Anne Anderson

Ambassador of Ireland to the USA, H.E. Anne Anderson made an official visit to the Twin Cities of Minneapolis – St. Paul on 27th - 30th May. The Ambassador’s programme included events with the Irish Community and a range political and business meetings.

Minister Jimmy Deenihan, TD, opens major Irish exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago

Minister for the Diaspora, Mr. Jimmy Deenihan, TD, made an official St. Patrick’s Day visit to Chicago and Milwaukee. While in Chicago, the Minister officially opened the Art Institute of Chicago’s major Ireland exhibition, Ireland: Crossroads of Art and Design 1690-1840.

The Consulate General of Ireland in Chicago is excited to launch our “50 links to Ireland in Chicago,” Instagram page, starting 28 January. Running over the weeks leading up to St. Patrick’s Day, the initiative will document and publicise fifty of our favourite uniquely Irish objects, organisations, places, figures, and things in Chicago, with something Irish about Chicago to be posted each day between now and 17th March.
