Minister Coveney travels to Washington D.C.

Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence, Simon Coveney, T.D., will be in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, 16 November for a number of meetings and engagements.

Ahead of the visit, Minister Coveney said;

“Ireland and the United States have a longstanding close and warm relationship, built on our common values and mutual interests.

"This visit to Washington, D.C. provides an opportunity for exchange on developments in Northern Ireland, EU-US relations and matters of shared concern with the US including Ukraine, Middle East issues and food security. The visit comes at an opportune time as we continue to seek to maximise our impact until the very end of our Security Council term and to work closely with the US to strengthen the UN’s ability to address global challenges.”

On Wednesday morning, the Minister will deliver a public address and take part in a fireside chat focused on Northern Ireland and the Good Friday Agreement, at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. A meeting with the Congressional Friends of Ireland caucus will follow.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Minister will meet with USAID Administrator, Samantha Power and with Counselor of the US Department of State, Derek Chollet. The Minister will also attend the US Chamber of Commerce for a roundtable discussion with Chamber members.
