Statement from Tánaiste Simon Coveney on Pakistan-India relations
Press release
03 March 2019
"I have previously expressed my concern at the terrorist attack in Pulwara, Kashmir. The increase in military activity between Pakistan and India since then has been alarming. The calls for restraint made by leaders around the world must be heeded.
"However, the dangers for the people living in the region are very serious and the situation must be immediately de-escalated and peacefully resolved, to the satisfaction of both countries, as quickly as possible.
"Ireland will always work with the international community to promote peace and reconciliation, as the impact of violence and conflict on people and societies can be devastating.
"I hope that Pakistan and India will work together to prevent further acts of terrorism in the region and pursue diplomatic solutions to the issues they face."
