Minister of State for European Affairs Helen McEntee T.D. visits the EU Parliament

The Minister of State for European Affairs, Helen McEntee, T.D. is visiting the European Parliament in Strasbourg this week, from 2-3 October.
Minister McEntee’s visit is the fourth Irish visit to the European Parliament at ministerial level so far in 2018, which began with a highly successful visit by An Taoiseach to the January 2018 Plenary session in Strasbourg.
The visit will be used by Minister McEntee to reinforce key messages on Brexit, to engage with the Parliament on the negotiations for the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), and to highlight Ireland’s outreach on Future of Europe issues. The Future of Europe debates will continue at this plenary session with an address by the Prime Minister of Estonia, Juri Ratas, on Wednesday.
Before leaving from Dublin, the Minister said that the visit highlighted the importance of continual engagement with EU counterparts. The Minister said that she looked forward to meeting a series of MEPs and Ministerial counterparts from around Europe to reiterate the need for a legally operable text to form part of the withdrawal agreement.
Minister McEntee said that she appreciates the unwavering support of the European Parliament in the Article 50 negotiations, particularly in relation to the Irish-specific issues.
Minister McEntee's upcoming meetings will be held with a number of Irish MEPs, the Estonian Minister for European Affairs, Matti Maasikas, Romanian Minister for European Affairs, Victor Negrescu, a member of the European Parliament’s Brexit Steering Group, Roberto Gualtieri, and rapporteur on the MFF, Isabelle Thomas.
