Minister Coveney to welcome Scottish External Relations Minister to Dublin

04 July 2017- Discussions to include Irish-Scottish co-operation and Brexit
The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Simon Coveney T.D., is to meet with the Scottish Government’s Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism and External Affairs, Fiona Hyslop MSP, during her visit to Dublin on 4/5 July.
The Minister will meet Ms Hyslop at Leinster House on the afternoon of 4 July, when they will discuss Irish-Scottish bilateral relations, including economic and cultural links. They will also discuss the UK’s exit from the European Union.
Ahead of the meeting, the Minister said:
“Fiona Hyslop has for long been a great champion of Irish-Scottish relations within the Scottish Government and I share her sense of the potential to grow those relations even further, notwithstanding significant challenges such as Brexit.
Ireland and Scotland have invested in these relations in recent years, including an expanded Irish Consulate in Edinburgh and the opening of a Scottish Hub, working within the British Embassy in Dublin. In economic terms alone, I see strong potential in sectors such as energy, food and financial services.
For me, this meeting is an important contact as part of my first round of engagement with political figures across these islands.”
Ms Hyslop will also be meeting with the Minister of State for European Affairs, Helen McEntee T.D., as well as the Minister of State at the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform with special responsibility for the Office of Public Works and Flood Relief, Kevin Boxer Moran T.D. Her programme will also include cultural contacts and an event to promote Irish-Scottish trade.
