Minister Flanagan expresses condolences at the passing of James Molyneaux
The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Charlie Flanagan, TD, today expressed his condolences on learning of the passing of James Molyneaux, Lord Molyneaux of Killead, and former leader of the Ulster Unionist Party.
Minister Flanagan said:
“I was saddened to learn today of the passing of Lord Molyneaux and wish to express my condolences to his family and friends.
"Jim Molyneaux’s political career spanned three decades and he was one of the longest-serving leaders of the Ulster Unionist Party. He resolutely led the party during some of the most difficult days of the Troubles in Northern Ireland. As such, he was part of a generation that fully appreciated the significance of the peaceful society which Northern Ireland is today.
"Lord Molyneaux faithfully represented the interests of his constituents and of the wider Unionist family throughout his career and served with distinction as Sovereign Grand Master of the Royal Black Institution.
"My thoughts are with his family and friends today as they mourn their loss”.
