Minister Flanagan and Secretary of State Villiers hold Political Talks in Dublin11 February 2015
The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Charlie Flanagan, TD, today (Wednesday) held political talks in Dublin with the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Theresa Villiers. The Minister and Secretary of State Villiers discussed a broad range of issues including the next steps in the implementation of the Stormont House Agreement (SHA).
Minister Flanagan stated:
“While implementation of the Stormont House Agreement was a key agenda item at today’s meeting, I was pleased to have an opportunity to discuss a broader range of issues with the Secretary of State, including the justice and security situation in Northern Ireland and a number of specific legacy cases.
“In the months leading up to the Stormont House Agreement, our meetings were focussed on assisting the parties in reaching agreement. Today provided an opportunity to progress discussions on a range of other areas of mutual interest.”
Emphasising the need for continued progress in implementing the Agreement, Minister Flanagan said:
“Today’s meeting was a good opportunity for both Governments to review progress on the implementation of the Stormont House Agreement.
“We both re-iterated our commitment to the faithful implementation of the Agreement and urged all of the Northern Ireland Executive parties to work together and with the two governments to ensure that the implementation timeline which we collectively endorsed on 30 January last is followed through.”
