Minister Flanagan to attend Remembrance Sunday ceremony in Belfast09 November 2014
The Minister will be joined by the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Theresa Villiers MP, and the First Minister of Northern Ireland, Peter Robinson MLA, as well as Lord Mayor of Belfast Nichola Mallon.
Speaking ahead of the ceremony, the Minister said:
“Today’s ceremony is a chance to reflect on the sad events of a hundred years ago when men and women from all parts of this island and from all traditions, left their homes to fight in the First World War.“
The Minister added:
Minister Flanagan also welcomed Ireland’s participation in the wreath-laying ceremony at the Cenotaph in London for the first time since 1946.
