Statement by the Tánaiste on the situation in Ukraine

The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr Eamon Gilmore T.D., this evening made the following statement on the situation in Ukraine:

"I have been following with growing concern developments which appear to severely threaten the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. I call on the Russian Federation to abide by international law and to respect Ukraine's territorial integrity and independence as it is obliged to do. This is in the interests of the Russian Federation, Ukraine and the international community as a whole.

In this dangerous situation, it is incumbent on all to act with the greatest care and avoid any provocation that could lead to further instability.

I call on all parties to work to ensure that, through dialogue, all legitimate concerns can be addressed."
