Minister Donohoe in Albania for EU discussions

Minister for European Affairs, Paschal Donohoe T.D., travels to Tirana today to meet with Albanian Prime Minister, H.E. Edi Rama, to discuss the progress being made by Albania towards candidate status and ultimately full membership of the EU.

Minister Donohoe will also meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ditmir Bushati; the Minister of European Integration, Mrs. Klajda Gjosha; the Speaker of the Parliament, H.E. Ilir Meta; and the Chair of the Committee of European Integration in the Albanian Parliament, Mrs. Majlinda Bregu.

The visit follows the statement at December’s European Council regarding the granting of EU candidate status to Albania in June this year. As such, Minister Donohoe will be conveying a strong message of encouragement for the continuation of the reform agenda which is being undertaken by the Albanian Government and lending Ireland’s support to these efforts.
