State Visit to Ireland by Queen Elizabeth II07 April 2011
As previously announced, Queen Elizabeth II accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh will pay a State visit to Ireland at the invitation of President Mary McAleese. The visit will take place from Tuesday 17 to Friday 20 May 2011. The announcement, published on the website of Áras an Uachtaráin earlier today (www.president.ie), sets out the main elements of the programme. A detailed Media Operational Note will issue at a later date. Preliminary advance information to assist media planning is set out below.
Notification of the precise opening date for receipt of applications for accreditation will be circulated shortly. Applications will be accepted through an on-line procedure on the website of the Department of Foreign Affairs (www.dfa.ie). Applicants will be requested to supply, inter alia, details of name, contact telephone, e-mail address and passport/ID/press card information and a digital photograph. Where appropriate, details will also be sought on outside broadcast units or similar equipment that may need to be accommodated in the course of the programme.
Logistical and security considerations will require the implementation of media pool arrangements throughout the programme. In such cases, attention will be paid to ensuring a balanced mix across the various media. Where pooling is applied, arrangements will be in place so that all accredited journalists can avail of pool broadcasts, photography and reporting.
Press Centres for the media will be available in Dublin, and separately for the Cashel and Cork elements of the programme.
