Irish Rule of Law International provides commercial arbitration training in Tanzania
Irish Rule of Law International (IRLI), with Embassy co-sponsorship, has arranged for a team of Irish volunteer lawyers to provide advanced training on commercial arbitration for senior members of the Tanzanian Judiciary and the Tanzanian Institute of Arbitrators. The training is being provided from 18-21 January in Arusha, Tanzania in partnership with Chief Justice Hon. Mohamed Chande Othman.
IRLI is a joint initiative of the Law Society of Ireland and the Bar of Ireland and is dedicated to promoting the rule of law in developing countries. The organisation has recently been joined by the Bar of Northern Ireland and the Law Society of Northern Ireland. IRLI seeks to harness the skills of Irish lawyers to support judicial reform and access to justice in partner countries. The Tanzania partnership aims to strengthen commercial arbitration, which is an important component in attracting investment in Tanzania. The increased use of Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms can also assist in reducing the burden of high caseloads within the courts system.
This week’s training is part of an ongoing partnership between Ireland and Tanzania. In 2014, five Tanzanian judges participated in a dialogue on arbitration and mediation hosted in Ireland.
