1916 Centenary Programme Tanzania

Embassy launches 1916 Centenary Events Programme

In 2016, Ireland will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Rising. The 1916 rising was a major catalyst in Ireland's journey towards independence and the foundation of the modern Irish state.

In commemorating 1916, Ireland is reaching out to the global Irish family and friends of Ireland from all over the world to join us in remembering , reflecting and re-imagining. As part of this, the Embassy of Ireland in Tanzania is hosting a series of events which will explore the shared experience of Ireland and Tanzania on the journey to liberation and statehood.

Exploring the role of women in liberation is a featured theme within the Embassy's programme which will examine the role of women in Tanzania's independence movement and share insights from the experiences of both countries.

There will also be an exchange event with young Tanzanian poets on the role of poetry, arts and culture in providing expression for an idealistic vision of the future.
