21 October: Ireland allocates €1million to UNHCR to meet basic education needs of Burundian refugee boys and girls

Ambassador Paul Sherlock announced today the allocation of €1 million of Irish Aid funding towards the construction of classrooms and provision of education supplies for children from Burundi living in the Nduta, Mtendeli and Nyarugusu Refugee Camps in Tanzania.

The Ambassador of Ireland to the United Republic of Tanzania, Mr. Paul Sherlock presented credentials to the Secretary General of the East African Community on 5th October 2016 at the East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania.

September 2016

29 September: Ireland awards eight new post graduate scholarships for Tanzanian students

The Ambassador of Ireland to the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Paul Sherlock, awarded certificates to eight Tanzanian professionals who were awarded scholarships by the Embassy of Ireland in Tanzania to pursue post-graduate masters’ degrees.

4 August: Ambassdor-designate Paul Sherlock meets Minister Dr. Mahiga

Ambassador-designate of Ireland to the United Republic of Tanzania, Mr. Paul Sherlock hands in copies of his credentials to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Hon. Dr. Augustine Mahiga at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

8 July: Students & volunteers bring Ireland and Tanzania closer

Throughout the Summer months, many Irish students and volunteers travel to Tanzania, engaging in Tanzanian culture and building the connections between our two countries.

4 July: Irish-Tanzanian partnership to build an Information Society

Tanzania's second ICT Summit, co-hosted by the institute of Finance Management (IFM), Tanzania, and the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), Ireland, took place on 4th July 2016 in Dar es Salaam.

17-19 June: Tackling the attacks faced by people with albinism

The first-ever regional forum for Action on Albinism in Africa took place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from 17-19 June. The event was hosted by the United Nations Independent Expert on Albinism, Ikponwosa Ero, and supported by the Embassy of Ireland and other donors.

17 June: Women in Liberation Struggles - Celebrating Creativity

On Friday 17th June, the Embassy, in partnership with Soma Book Café, hosted a literary event exploring women in liberation struggles, one of a series of events commemorating the 1916 Rising.

28 June: Video: Women in Liberation Event

The Embassy of Ireland in Tanzania hosted an exhibition and panel discussion on the theme of Women in Liberation Struggles. Irish academic,  historian and expert on women in 1916, Mary McAuliffe, joined Tanzanian panellists to discuss the role of women in liberation in both Ireland and Tanzania

19 May: Women and Liberation Struggles Exhibition and Panel Discussion

The Embassy of Ireland in Tanzania will host a Panel Discussion and Exhibition at the National Museum in Dar es Salaam on ‘Women in Liberation Struggles’ on Thursday, May 19th at 17.30.

April 2016

9 April:  1916 Centenary Programme Tanzania

In 2016, Ireland will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Rising. The 1916 Rising was a major catalyst in Ireland's journey towards independence and the foundation of the modern Irish state.

1 April: Ireland Signs Health Code of Conduct

Representatives from donor, civil society and the private sector joined the Government of Tanzania to sign a new Code of Conduct for the health sector on April 1st.

March 2016

20 March: Statement on Election Re-Run in Zanzibar

The High Commissioners and Ambassadors to Tanzania of Belgium, Canada, Denmark, the European Union, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States, today issued a statement regarding the election re-run which took place in Zanzibar on March 20th, 2016

22 January: Irish Lawyers Partner with Tanzanian Judiciary

Irish Rule of Law International (IRLI), with Embassy co-sponsorship, has arranged for a team of Irish volunteer lawyers to provide advanced training on commercial arbitration for senior members of the Tanzanian Judiciary and the Tanzanian Institute of Arbitrators. The training is being provided from 18-21 January in Arusha, Tanzania in partnership with Chief Justice Hon. Mohamed Chande Othman.
