The 70th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations was celebrated with the planting of over 2000 trees in Maruwa, on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. As part of the event, Ambassador Gilsenan planted a tree representing Ireland.

I am delighted to attend the fourth Young Scientist Tanzania exhibition and to once again witness the creativity, intelligence and hard-work of Tanzania’s young people.  It is a particular pleasure for me as Ireland’s Ambassador to Tanzania to be invited to address this group.  As many of you know, the Young Scientist Tanzania is modelled on a similar competition in Ireland which was established over 50 years ago and it generates the same level of excitement and enthusiasm that I sense in this hall today.

The Embassy hosted the Rose of Tralee, Ms Maria Walsh, and Development Perspectives’ Insight 2015 group, for an evening of discussion and sharing of perspectives on Tanzania and Ireland. Among the participants were Tanzanian youth development organisation UVIKIUTA, who are an exchange partner of Insight 2015.

New Partnership with Women Fund Tanzania

6 July 2015

Ambassador Gilsenan today signed a new partnership agreement with Women Fund Tanzania (WFT), a non-profit women’s rights organisation. The partnership will focus on women’s participation in the upcoming general elections. To this end, the Embassy has awarded a €240,000 grant to WFT’s Women Rights Promotion in Election and Post-Election Processes in Tanzania project.

New Health Project Launched by Irish Aid Partners

The Embassy was delighted to attend the launch of Amref Health Africa’s new project Community Engagement in Health Service Management- Afya Bora Shirikishi. Funded by Irish Aid, this two year pilot is being implemented in Itilima district, Simiyu Region. Head of Cooperation, Ms Máire Matthews, represented the Embassy at the launch, which was held in Luguru Village.

Minister Sherlock visited ZECO's Mtoni substation, on Zanzibar, and met with consultant engineers from ESB International who have constructed 27 such stations in Tanzania since 2010.
