Celebrations for Bloomsday 2015 around Spain

"This year see some very special events taking place here in Spain to celebrate the day - Barcelona on Saturday, 13 June, Malaga on Sunday 14 June & 16 June, Bilbao on Tuesday 16 June and Madrid, also on Tuesday, 16 June.

Joycean aficionados in Barcelona have been planning an interesting line up of events to celebrate the day in La Casa de la Paraula. They will be showing a film, and will have readings accompanied by some wonderful music. Everyone more than welcome to dress up.

The 5th Bloomsday Bathe on the Beach will take place in Fuengirola, Málaga on Sunday 14 June. More celebrations will continue on the day itself, Tuesday 16th June.

As every year, Lagun CARA Bilbao (the Irish Basque Association) will join the celebrations with readings in English, Spanish and Euskara around the streets of the city, and encourage you to wear a white shirt/blouse and a straw hat!

The Circulo Catalán de Madrid and the Bloomsday Society, which have been meeting there throughout the year to read extracts from Ulysses, have been very busy organising a special evening full of readings and song to celebrate Bloomsday. They will be joined by members of the English-speaking theatre group, the Madrid Players, who will delight the audience with their performances. You are most welcome to attend in costume. We have attached the evening's programme for you here also.

The James Joyce Pub in Madrid are also joining in the festivities for the day, with readings, song and dance. You are encouraged to go along in fancy dress.

The II Bloomsday celebration in Zaragoza will take place in the Sala Cero de Teatro de las Esquinas, at 20.30h on Tuesday 16 June. The group have also been active throughout the year since January with 6 gatherings to read Joyce. The event on Tuesday will bring the cycle to a close, with traditional Irish music and costume. Everyone is welcome to come along.
