Dear Friends,
Welcome to the website of the Embassy of Ireland in Bratislava.
It is a privilege to represent Ireland in the Slovak Republic. My key priorities are to broaden and deepen our engagement and connections in the political, economic and cultural spheres and to protect the interests of Irish citizens. I warmly welcome your ideas and proposals.
Our two countries have gained a great deal from working together, including through our membership of the European Union. It was during our EU presidency in 2004 that the Slovak Republic became an EU member. Thousands of Slovak citizens now live in Ireland and a vibrant Irish community exists in the Slovak Republic. Their contribution to their host country serves to further deepen the already strong bonds between us.
As Ambassador, I hope to do all I can in further advancing the close and friendly relations existing between our two countries and to enable us to work more closely together in pursuit of our many common interests, particularly within the framework of the European Union.
The goodwill towards Ireland in the Slovak Republic is greatly valued and we look forward to further fruitful mutual cooperation in the years ahead.

Fáilte chuig suíomh gréasáin Ambasáid na hÉireann sa Bhratasláiv.
Is mór an phribhléid é ionadaíocht a dhéanamh ar son na hÉireann i bPoblacht na Slóvaice. Is iad na príomhthosaíochtaí atá agam leathnú agus doimhniú a dhéanamh ar ár gcuid rannpháirtíochta agus ár gcuid nasc i réimsí na polaitíochta, an gheilleagair agus an chultúir, agus leasanna shaoránaigh na hÉireann a chosaint. Cuirim fáilte ó chroí roimh smaointe agus moltaí uait.
Bhain an dá thír an-tairbhe as a bheith ag obair le chéile, lena n-áirítear trínár mballraíocht san Aontas Eorpach. Ba le linn ár n-uachtaránachta ar an AE in 2004 a ghlac an Poblacht na Slóvaice ballraíocht san AE. Tá cónaí ar na mílte de shaoránaigh na Slóvaice in Éirinn anois agus tá pobal bríomhar Éireannach i bPoblacht na Slóvaice. Fágann an cion a dhéanann siadsan ar son a dtíre aíochta gur láidre fós atá an ceangal eadrainn.
I mo cháil mar Ambasadóir, tá súil agam gach is féidir liom a dhéanamh chun an dlúthchairdeas idir an dá thír seo againne a chothú a thuilleadh, agus chun a chur ar ár gcumas dúinn a bheith ag obair níos dlúithe le chéile ar mhaithe leis na leasanna atá againn araon, go háirithe faoi chuimsiú chreat an Aontais Eorpaigh.
Is mór againn an dea-thoil i leith na hÉireann i bPoblacht na Slóvaice agus táimid ag tnúth le comhoibriú eile fós a chur ar bun eadrainn chun ár leasa araon sna blianta atá romhainn.

Je mi cťou zastupovať Írsko v Slovenskej republike. Mojimi hlavnými prioritami je rozšíriť a prehĺbiť naše aktivity a prepojenia v politickej, hospodárskej a kultúrnej oblasti a tiež chrániť záujmy írskych občanov. Veľmi rád uvítam aj vaše nápady a návrhy.
Vďaka vzájomnej spolupráci získali naše dve krajiny veľa, a to aj prostredníctvom nášho členstva v Európskej únii. Slovenská republika sa stala členom EÚ počas nášho predsedníctva v EÚ v roku 2004. V Írsku teraz žijú tisíce slovenských občanov a v Slovenskej republike existuje aktívna írska komunita. Ich prínosom pre hostiteľskú krajinu je ďalšie prehĺbenie už aj tak silných väzieb medzi nami.
Ako veľvyslanec dúfam, že urobím všetko, čo budem môcť pre to, aby som ďalej rozvíjal blízke a priateľské vzťahy medzi našimi dvoma krajinami a umožnil nám užšiu spoluprácu pri presadzovaní našich mnohých spoločných záujmov, najmä v rámci Európskej únie.
Veľmi si cením priateľstvo voči Írsku v Slovenskej republike a tešíme sa na ďalšiu plodnú vzájomnú spoluprácu v nasledujúcich rokoch.

Biography
Ambassador McGauran was educated at University College Dublin and joined the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1994. He is married to Estelle and has two daughters. His most recent assignment was as Director for the US and Canada at the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin. Dermot has held several other posts at home and abroad.
