Brother Joe McNally Portrait

A portrait of the late Brother Joe McNally was formally unveiled at the Irish Residence at an event on Thursday 29th September2016 where the guest of honour was Singapore's Ambassador-at-large, Professor Tommy Koh.

Photographed from left to right: Paraic McGrath, Ambassador Geoffrey Keating, Professor Tommy Koh, Professor Steve Nixon and Andre Tan.

The painting, by Singaporean artist Andre Tan, was donated to the Embassy by CRH (Asia) who were the successful bidders for the work of art at the 2015 Singapore Ireland Fund charity ball. CRH was represented by their South East Asia Development Director, Paraic McGrath.

Brother McNally arrived in Singapore in 1946 and dedicated his lifetime to education and the promotion of the arts in his adopted home. His contribution to education in Singapore was recognised in 1990 with the Public Service Medal and in 1997 with Singapore's highest award, the National Day Meritorious Service Medal.

Following his retirement from teaching, Brother McNally founded La Salle College of the Arts in 1984. The President of La Salle College, Steve Dixon, addressed the event which was also attended by a number of faculty members.

Also in attendance were a number of St Patrick's School alumni, where Brother McNally served as Principal.
