The Embassy is delighted to announce a range of events in both Bergen and Oslo for the 2016 St. Patrick's Day Programme.

Full details of the St. Patrick's Day/1916 Centenary activities in Bergen in collaboration with the Bergen Irish Society.

Introduction to St. Patrick

Saturday 27th February - Storytelling for Children with Marianne Barron.

The Story of St. Patrick - Nordnes Bydelhuset - 3pm - 4.30 pm.

Preparing the children for St. Patrick's Day with the story of the life of St. Patrick. Storytelling will be followed by craft activities where the children can make their own St. Patrick's Day badges/posters.

This will be the first in a series of Storytelling for children. The Bergen Irish Society plan to continue on a regular basis with stories of Irish mythology such as Tir Na nOg, The Salmon of Knowledge, The Children of Lir etc, in order to give children an opportunity to learn about Irish folklore and Ireland’s rich cultural history.

Wednesday 9 March to 17 March - Greening of Ulriken - 6.30 pm
Mount Ulriken will be green from the 9th of March until St. Patrick's Day!

Thursday 10 March - Irish History Lecture - Sissel Rosland
Bergen Literaturhuset - 7 p.m. - 10.p.m.
Guest of Honor & Opening Speech by Irish Ambassador - Karl Gardner

Sunday 13 March - St. Patrick's Day Family Event - 2.15 pm.
Festplassen - Bergen Sentrum
Family Treasure Hunt
Featuring Activities with Irish Cultural Theme
Dinner at TGI Fridays

Remembrance/Minute Silence/Piper Salute
to take place after the Treasure Hunt.

Monday 14 March Andy Irvine live at Columbie Egg, Bergen.

21:00 The legendary Irish trad and folk musician plays in Bergen’s folk music club. A great way to finish the St. Patrick’s Day week festivities in Bergen!

Details of above activities feature on the Bergen Irish Society website www.bergenirish.com and the Bergen Irish Facebook pages. A Monthly Newsletter is available to all who are interested simply by joining/subscribing to Bergen Irish on their website. There is no membership fee to join Bergen Irish Society, however they do charge a small contribution fee to some events to cover their costs.

Oslo

Thursday, 17 March Andy Irvine live at Riksscenen, Oslo.
20:00 The legendary Irish trad and folk musician plays in one of Oslo’s premiere music venues. A great way to mark the day!

Friday, 18 March
18:00 St. Patrick’s Day Mass at St. Olav’s Cathedral; Open to all

Saturday, 19 March
12:00 St. Patrick’s Day Parade from Jernbanetorget

The parade will start at 12 noon (sharp!) and will leave from Jernbanetorget through Karl Johans gate, finishing with a gathering at Universitetsplassen.

14:00 – 20:30 St. Patrick’s Day Family event at Mona Lisa Huset (3rd floor), address: Grensen 10, (just off Karl Johans gate)
This family event will start after the parade and information regarding booking, food and entertainment can be found at www.irishsociety.no and www.facebook.com/norwegianirishsociety
