The Embassy of Ireland is delighted to announce Masters of Tradition, a free concert on November 28 which will shocase the very best of Norweigan and Irish traditional and folk music. Tom Morrow, a former All Ireland Fiddle Champion will perform alongside Erlend Viken, one of the foremost fiddle players in Norway. In addition to some amazing live music, they will also compare and contrast Irish and Norweigan traditional and folk music in a discussion moderated by Guri Skeie, host of the popular NRK P2 radio show Folkemusikktimen.

Tom Morrow is a former All Ireland fiddle champion and is a member of the popular Irish traditional group Dervish. Tom is a native of Carrigallen in county Leitrim and is the eldest of a musical family. He has played extensively witha  wide range of musicians around Leitrim and Cavan with including the Cornafean Group and Aitoin McGabhann. While studying in Limerick, he was part of the vibrant session scene that existed in the area. Tom then lived and worked in Dublin and is regularly involved in music sessions in Dublin and throughout the country.

Erlend Viken was born in Oppdal in 1984 and comes from a long line of musicians. He started to play fiddle as a six year old. He also plays harding fiddle and is a composer. Since 2008 he has been a full-time musician and has a bachelor from the norweigan Academy of Music. He has wona wards for his records with Aslak Brimi, and has been nominated twice to Spellemannsprisen with Earlybird Stringband. He composes music for Frikar Dance Company and has contributed on many recordings, the most recent one being OnklP & De Fjerne Slektningene and on Erlend Ropstad’s record, which was nominated to Spellemannsprisen in two categories. In 2012, Erlend won the prestigeous Intro-folk award, and subsequently formed Erlend Viken trio. Their record ¨Frie Tøyler¨ was released in February and has eceived great acclaim both in Norway and Internationally.

The event is free and will be conducted in English.
