The Africa Ireland Economic Forum 2016, a view from Abuja

The Africa Ireland Economic Forum 2016 took place on Friday 17 June and placed a particular focus on Nigeria and West Africa, particularly in sectors such as aviation. The Chairman of the largest Nigerian Airline, Arik Air, and the Nigerian Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sikika, were among the most high profile African attendees.

Embassy commemorates Roger Casement's time in Calabar

To commemorate Roger Casement’s time in Calabar, and to acknowledge his legacy as a humanitarian in Africa, Embassy Abuja supported a consultative workshop on the impact of foreign (and local) investment on indigenous communities. The objective was to seek agreement on three broad principles: the right to consultation by communities, transparency of all transactions and independent monitoring.

Casement and Calabar: A Century of Lessons

To commemorate Roger Casement’s time in Old Calabar (1891-1894), and his humanitarian legacy, the Embassy plans to convene an event on best practices in corporate governance. This will remember the positive legacy of one of Ireland’s greatest humanitarians and will imagine a better future for the Niger Delta.

Minister Coveney leads successful Trade Mission to Ghana

From 2-4 December 2015, Minister Simon Coveney T.D. led a Trade Mission to Ghana. In addition to a wide range of business engagements, Minister Coveney met his counterpart while visit an Irish Aid funded UN response depot, delivered a keynote address at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Centre and spent a day celebrating farming with the World Food Programme and Ghana's Vice President.
