Ambassadors march in solidarity with missing Chibok girls

Ambassador Hoy and Ambassador Gettermann (Denmark) marched with 219 schoolgirls to show their solidarity with the Chibok girls. The march took place on 14 April, one year since the taking of the Chibok girls.

The Ambassadors were joined by the Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission. They met with the leaders of the #BringBackOurGirls group and also with some of the parents of the Chibok girls. Ambassador Hoy said "I came here to give my own solidarity to the campaign. I also have daughters of my own, so I can feel the pain that people here are feeling" He noted that the most important thing was to bring the girls back safely. The fate of the Chibok girls is part of a humanitarian crisis in northern Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin caused by the Boko Haram insurgency. Ireland has recently contributed 87 tonnes of stocks worth 41 million to our NGO Partner Plan for Nigerian refugees fleeing Boko Haram and living in camps in northern Cameroon.
