St. Patrick's Day 2017

St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland and the 17th March, better known as St. Patrick’s Day, is our national holiday. Every year, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade helps to organise over 350 events in 100 countries around the world to mark the day. Central to this is the ‘Promote Ireland’ programme which in 2017 will see the Taoiseach, Tanaiste and 27 Ministers and Ministers of State travel to over 50 cities in 27 countries, ensuring a truly global celebration of Ireland.

St Patrick’s Day provides a unique opportunity to increase awareness of Ireland and our values worldwide. Right across our network of 80 Embassies and Consulates, we use the celebrations to share our culture, history, and values with the 70 million people of Irish heritage who celebrate around the world and increase awareness of Ireland.
