Head of Cooperation, Mr Kevin Colgan reiterated Ireland’s support for the Province’s development

Mr Colgan, together with the Governor of Inhambane Province, had been presiding over a meeting which agreed upon a number of actions to improve the outcomes and impacts of the funds that the Embassy provides to a number of Directorates within the Provincial Government.

In Inhambane Province, Ireland has committed to support the government in addressing the multiple causes of vulnerability in areas which include HIV/ AIDS, diversification of income sources, strengthening agriculture systems and food security, water and sanitation and strengthening the capacity of the local government structures and systems. Ireland has been supporting the Inhambane Government with an annual investment of €750 000 since the beginning of the current Country Strategy Paper (CSP) for Mozambique in 2012.

Ireland also provides support to a number of Non-Governmental Organisations which target the poorest and most vulnerable through interventions that provide opportunities and livelihood options.

The projects, administered by CARE and TechnoServe, address a range of issues from access to clean water to strategies to deal with climate change to technical assistance to small-holder farmers on how to grow high-value crops for export.
