Cuba Cultural Events

As part of ongoing cultural cooperation between Ireland and Cuba, and on the occasion of the official visit to Cuba by President of Ireland Michael D Higgins, the Embassy of Ireland in Mexico is organising a series of Irish cultural events around the Havana Book Fair in February 2017.

These events will include the launch of the Cuban edition of ‘Star of the Sea’ by Joseph O’Connor; the participation of a number of Irish authors in the Book Fair for the first time; the biennial conference of the Society for Irish Latin American Studies (SILAS), a global academic network of researchers working on historical, literary and cultural links between Ireland and Latin America, in partnership with the Oficina del Historiador and the University of Havana (Colegio Universitario San Geronimo); the launch of ‘The Irish in Latin America’ exhibition in Palacio Segundo Cabo; and a performance of Irish musicians and dancers at Teatro Jose Martí organised by Culture Ireland.

The aim of these events is to strengthen the links between Ireland and Cuba through cultural cooperation, and increase the presence and visibility of Irish culture in Cuba and historical links between Cuba and Ireland.
