Message from Ambassador McDonald
Welcome to the official website of the Embassy of Ireland in Luxembourg.
It is a great honour and privilege for me to serve as Ambassador of Ireland in Luxembourg, and to have presented credentials on 21 September 2023 to H.R.H. the Grand Duke of Luxembourg.
I arrived from Dublin having worked for the last two years on strategic and governance issues in the Department of Foreign Affairs. Prior to that, most of my career has been focussed on policy issues at the EU and United Nations, including secondments to the Department of the Taoiseach, and the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, as well as assignments to our Embassy in Paris, and Ireland’s representation to the United Nations in Geneva.
Ireland and Luxembourg enjoy excellent relations, and during my time here, I am eager to explore opportunities to deepen further, the strong ties between the two countries. Over the next few months, I am looking forward to meeting with the local community many of whom are involved in a wide range of business, sporting, cultural and charitable activities.

Is mór an onóir agus an phribhléid dom fónamh mar Ambasadóir na hÉireann i Lucsamburg, agus mo dhintiúir a bhronnadh ar a Mhórgacht Ard-Diúc Lucsamburg an 21 Meán Fómhair 2023.
Tháinig mé ó Bhaile Átha Cliath tar éis dom a bheith ag obair le dhá bhliain anuas ar shaincheisteanna straitéiseacha agus rialachais sa Roinn Gnóthaí Eachtracha. Roimhe sin, bhí an chuid is mó de mo ghairmréim dírithe ar shaincheisteanna beartais san AE agus sna Náisiúin Aontaithe, lena n-áirítear tréimhsí ar iasacht chuig Roinn an Taoisigh, agus an Roinn Leanaí, Comhionannais, Míchumais, Imeasctha agus Óige, chomh maith le lonnúcháin inár nAmbasáid i bPáras, agus in ionadaíocht na hÉireann chuig na Náisiúin Aontaithe sa Ghinéiv.
Tá caidreamh iontach idir Éirinn agus Lucsamburg, agus le linn mo chuid ama anseo, tá fonn orm deiseanna a fhiosrú chun na naisc láidre idir an dá thír a dhoimhniú tuilleadh. Sna míonna amach romhainn, táim ag tnúth le bualadh leis an bpobal áitiúil a bhfuil baint ag go leor acu le raon leathan gníomhaíochtaí gnó, spóirt, cultúrtha agus carthanachta.
Rud tábhachtach is ea go bhfuil an Ambasáid anseo chun cabhrú le hÉireannaigh a bhfuil tacaíocht uathu agus mar sin déan teagmháil linn más féidir linn cabhrú leat.
