Visit to Tokyo by Ireland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Business, Enterprise & Innovation

Ireland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Frances Fitzgerald T.D., will visit Japan from 27 to 29 September.
Her main purpose is to promote trade and investment links between Ireland and Japan. The visit is timely as it comes in the wake of agreement in principle on the EU Japan Economic Partnership Agreement.
The Deputy Prime Minister will be the third senior member of the Irish Government to visit Japan in 2017, following on from visits by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Minister for Public Expenditure & Reform. She will meet with Japanese counterparts in the Diet maintaining Ireland’s long-standing and positive bilateral relationship.
The Deputy Prime Minister will be accompanied by a range of Irish companies and will meet Japanese businesses in a variety of sectors, including ICT and Fintech, where Ireland has strong capabilities. She will also take part in some announcements by Irish and Japanese companies developing new and innovative business links.
During her stay, the Deputy Prime Minister will address the Europe Committee of Keidanren to highlight trade and investment opportunities in Ireland. She will also speak to members of the Ireland Japan Chamber of Commerce on opportunities for the Ireland, EU and Japan business relationship.
Welcoming the visit, Ambassador of Ireland Anne Barrington said, “This visit by the Deputy Prime Minister, the second most senior member of the Irish Government, demonstrates Ireland’s commitment to deepening political and economic links with Japan. It is significant that the visit takes place in the wake of political agreement on the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement and during the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations as we celebrate and strengthen the relationship between Ireland and Japan”.

9月27日から29日にかけ、アイルランド‐日本間における貿易・投資関係の促進を主な目的として、アイルランド副首相兼企業・イノベーション大臣フランセス・フィッツジェラルドが来日します。
7月の日EU経済連携協定（EPA）大枠合意を受け、非常にタイムリーな訪日と言えます。
2017年、アイルランドの閣僚による来日は、外務大臣、経済再生・公共支出改革大臣に続いて、フィッツジェラルド副首相で3人目です。アイルランドと日本は長きに渡り良好な関係を築いており、その継続的発展のため、副首相は日本政府のカウンターパートと会談する予定です。
副首相の来日には、ICT、フィンテックなどアイルランドが得意とする分野を中心としたアイルランド企業の訪問団が同行します。副首相の立ち会いのもと、アイルランド企業と日本企業の新たな事業提携の発表が予定されています。
副首相は滞在中、一般社団法人 日本経済団体連合会 ヨーロッパ地域委員会との懇談会に出席し、アイルランドにおける貿易・投資の機会について講演します。また、在日アイルランド商工会議所と懇談し、アイルランド‐EU‐日本間におけるビジネスチャンスについて話す予定です。
フィッツジェラルド副首相の来日を歓迎し、アン・バリントン駐日アイルランド大使は次のように述べています。「アイルランド政府から副首相が来日するということは、日本との政治・経済関係の強化に対する、国の強い意志を表しています。日EU経済連携協定の大枠合意を受け、また、日本との外交関係樹立60周年にあたり、両国の関係を深める上で意義の深い訪問となります。」
