Lost or Stolen Passports
If your passport has been lost or stolen you can contact the Passport Service for advice during working hours (9 - 5 Monday to Friday) on +44 (0)20 7373 4339.
You do not require a passport to travel between Ireland and Great Britain, however some carriers/airlines require a passport as proof of identification. If you have lost or mislaid your passport, we advise that you check with your airline or carrier to see what form of valid identification they will accept.
Where you have lost your passport and require an Emergency Travel document to travel home, you can present in person at the Passport Service during working hours Monday to Friday at 114a Cromwell Road, London, SW7 4ES (nearest tube station Gloucester Road).
Lost, stolen or damaged passports can now be renewed online. You may be asked to submit certain documentation. See our information on how to apply.
Where a passport has been lost and is found by an airline/carrier or another authority it may be returned to the Passport Service for cancellation. In such cases, your passport will be cancelled by the Passport Service but will not be returned to you. You can apply to the Passport Service at 114A Cromwell Road, SW7 4ES for an Emergency Travel document to travel home or apply online to renew your passport.
If you have reported your passport lost or stolen and subsequently find it, do not use it for travel. You run the risk of being stopped at border crossings, as Interpol keeps a record of all reports of lost or stolen passports.
You should instead return the passport to the Passport Service Customer Care:
