The spouse or civil partner of an Irish citizen may apply for Irish citizenship through naturalisation after three years of marriage/civil partnership plus three years residence on the island of Ireland.
If you are of Irish associations, the Minister for Justice and Equality has absolute discretion to waive the conditions for naturalisation. Irish associations means being related by blood, affinity or adoption to an Irish citizen.
If you want to apply for Irish citizenship through naturalisation, you need to download the relevant application form, which includes application guidance (see link below).
The completed form should be lodged with the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS).
Naturalisation is a process whereby a non-Irish national can apply to become an Irish citizen subject to satisfying certain conditions for naturalisation.
All applications for Irish citizenship are dealt with by the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service of the Department of Justice and Equality. The majority of applications will have a decision within 6 months.
