The Embassy of Ireland is currently accepting applications for stagiaires. The positions are for a period of six months until 2017 and stagiaires may be assigned to the bilateral Embassy or to Ireland’s representation to the OECD and UNESCO. Both missions are based in the same building on Avenue Foch in Paris.

President Michael D. Higgins attends major climate change summit in Paris

President Michael D. Higgins addressed the ‘Summit of Consciences for the Climate’ on Tuesday, 21st July at the Economic, Social and Environmental Council in Paris. President Higgins was one of four keynote speakers who delivered opening remarks at the conference. The other speakers were President Hollande, former Secretary General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan, and Prince Albert of Monaco.

Ireland passes marriage equality referendum

On 22 May 2015, Ireland became the first country in the world to vote for equal marriage in a referendum. The proposal was supported by 62% of voters, or 1.2 million people. The Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Tánaiste Joan Burton spoke following the result on the significance of the vote for Ireland.

Visit by French Prime Minister Manuel Valls to Dublin

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls travelled to Dublin for a two visit on 23-24 April. In the course of the visit, Mr Valls met with Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Tánaiste Joan Burton as well as key Irish business and political figures and attended a ceremony to inaugurate the new Embassy of France in Ireland in Merrion Square.

The Embassy of Ireland, Paris has a vacancy for a full-time locally engaged Office and Accounts Manager.
The responsibilities will include to provide high quality management and administration, to facilitate the smooth day to day running of the Embassy offices and to ensure maintenance of the Embassy premises which houses the Public Consular Office, Chancellery, Ambassador’s Residence, as well as the Irish Delegation to the OECD and to UNESCO.
The successful applicant should be available to begin in April 2015. The statutory probation period will apply.

As we were about to send this newsletter in early January, Paris underwent a series of brutal terrorist attacks that resulted in very serious and sad loss of life. The events and their aftermath fundamentally changed how we all began 2015, and we have waited to send this newsletter until now out of respect for those who died and in solidarity with the French people.

Taoiseach attends Solidarity March in Paris

Taoiseach Enda Kenny travelled to Paris on 11 January to join President Hollande and the French people in the march of solidarity. Speaking after the march, the Taoiseach expressed his condolences and support for the French government and the French people.
