President Higgins keynote address delivered at Africa Hall, in the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa

It is a great pleasure to be here with you all in Africa Hall, the historic headquarters of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa in Addis Ababa, on what is my second visit to Africa as President of Ireland.

Visit by the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, and Sabina Higgins, to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia

The President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, accompanied by his wife, Sabina, and the Minister of State for Development, Trade Promotion and North-South Co-operation, Seán Sherlock T.D., will arrive in Addis Ababa on Sunday, 2 November at the beginning of a visit to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, the Republic of Malawi and the Republic of South Africa.

European Film Festival in Ethiopia

This year the Embassy of Ireland participated in the annual European Film Festival in Ethiopia through the screening of the animated Irish movie “the Secret of Kells”. This enchanting tale inspired by Irish mythology will be shown on the 4th of October at Alliance Ethio-Française.

The Secretary General of DFAT in Ireland, Mr. Niall Burgess, visits Ethiopia

On the 8th of September the Secretary General of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Ireland, Mr. Niall Burgess, arrived in Addis Ababa for a short visit to the Irish Embassy and to monitor the progress of the Irish Aid bilateral programme in Ethiopia.


August 2014

Irish Aid Ethiopia organises an experience sharing visit to Tigray to showcase the Pilot Cash Transfer Programme

18-19/08/2014

From August 18-19, 2014, a team of around 22 attendees* travelled to Tigray to assess on the ground the Electronic Cash Transfer Pilot Programme and learn from this experience. Especially for partners involved in the implementation of the PSNP, the visit aimed to build awareness and capacity in informing decisions and in adopting the system into the anticipated similar pilot in two Woredas in Oromia region. The visit was organized by Irish Aid in collaboration with MOSS-ICT, Tigray BoLSA, DeCSI and the joint financial inclusion project of the World Bank and MoFED.

Ambassador O’Hara signed an agreement with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)

During a ceremony held at the Sheraton Addis Hotel on the 9th of July 2014 the Ambassador of Ireland to Ethiopia, Aidan O’Hara, announced a new collaboration with USAID to facilitate the growth of the dairy sector in Ethiopia.
