Visit of Alex White T.D., Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources to Copenhagen

The Embassy was pleased to recently be able to welcome Mr. Alex White T.D., Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, who visited Copenhagen from 9-11 September 2015.

The Minister travelled to Denmark for consultations with Danish Minister for Energy, Utilities and Climate Mr. Lars Christian Lilleholt, and also took the opportunity to meet with many others active in the transition towards a carbon free economy.

Minister White met with State of Green, which is responsible for showcasing Danish Clean Technology internationally, with the Danish Energy Agency and also with energinet.dk, which operates the gas and electricity grid in Denmark. In addition, Dong Energy kindly facilitated a visit to their advanced thermal power production facility at Avedørevarket.

On Friday morning, 11 September, members of the Irish Professional Nordic Network had the opportunity to meet with the Minister and hear directly about the improving Irish economy and the employment opportunities that are emerging in Ireland.

Finally, the delegation visited the Danish Technical University (DTU), where Minister White learned first-hand of DTU’s cooperation with University College Dublin which is focused on developing a next generation grid that will have the capacity to manage energy generated by a variety of means.
