W. B. Yeats – 150th Anniversary Event II

W. B. Yeats at 150: Collective memory, Ancients Pasts – Professor Kevin Barry of University College Galway at Soloneion Book Centre - Thursday 22nd October 2015 at 18:30

Ambassador Nicholas Twist introducing Professor Kevin Barry

Soloneion Book Centre in collaboration with the Embassy of Ireland in Cyprus hosted a lecture by Professor Kevin Barry of University College Galway. After introductory remarks by Ambassador Twist, Professor Barry focused on commemorations and the fragility of reliance on the past to validate the present: apart from the Yeats anniversary this year, next year marks the centenary of the 1916 Rising which started the final push for Irish Independence. Those momentous events still resonate today. Professor Barry used a variety of images to illustrate his theme.
